Physical Education

Norbury has fantastic sports facilities, including a large hall, two 5 a side pitches and a Netball Court. Pupils participate in all sports across the curriculum including swimming. Sports at Norbury are of a high quality and we have many clubs. These include Netball and Football squads where the children have the opportunity to play against other teams within the borough. All pupils have the opportunity to work with qualified coaches.

Gymnastics Clubs

We currently run five gymnastics clubs at Norbury from year 1-6, with over 100 children taking part. During the sessions the children learn to improve flexibility, strength, co ordination and balance as well as learning specific gymnastic skills. We work along side the British Gymnastics Proficiency Awards and the children are tested on their Proficiency Awards twice a year in the Autumn and the Spring Term.  If they are successful they will be awarded their badge and certificate in celebration assembly. The summer term is all about routines and competitions. The gymnasts learn routines on Vault, Floor and body management and perform them in front of a qualified judge and their families. All children receive a certificate and medal and have a wonderful time showing their parents what they have been learning.

Our team at Norbury has been very successful over the last few years. We have represented the London Borough of Harrow at the London Youth Games finals for the last two years running, winning medals each time. Last year our year six team were crowned London Youth Games Champions at Body Management, winning against over 26 teams from all around London.

These Clubs are run by Caroline Burke – a very skilled training coach.

Gymnastics Curriculum Outlines

“Norbury School runs a Bikeability Programme to teach pupils to become safer on the roads. The Bikeability programme teaches essential skills to support pupils to become competent cyclists. The important skills covered are bike safety, breaking and steering and awareness of hazards. The Bike It Crew are active members in supporting this programme and have regular meetings to ensure pupils are confident when cycling.”
